Lady Hamilton

Lady Hamilton

Alexandre Dumas

The novel represents one of Dumas' lesser-known, but still very interesting historical-biographical novels.

Based in part on real events and people, the novel depicts the life of Emma, Lady Hamilton, the famous mistress of British Admiral Horatio Nelson, during the turbulent period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. "Lady Hamilton" is a novel that demonstrates Dumas's ability to bring real historical figures to life through a romantic-adventure narrative. Although not among his most famous works, it provides an interesting look at the life of a woman who left her mark on great history, but also paid the price for that mark.

This is the story of the love of two young people, Marguerite Gautier and Armand Duval. Although relationships between men and women have always been complicated enough on their own, this is no typical tale of unrequited love.
