Ulazeći u Varcar

Ulazeći u Varcar

Ivan Lovrenović

The hybrid book – a novel, poem and essay in one – is a dedication to his native Varcar, a small village in central Bosnia, where the author's roots intertwine with the history, myth and chaos of the 20th century.

For Ivan Lovrenović, Varcar is more than a place of growth, a home for his ancestors, memories; it is the magma from which all poetic, literary and life associations are born and created. Without the magic of the place, without the river and his grandfather's house, orchards, without churches and friars, without the possibility of immersing himself in memories and documents, it is difficult to imagine Ivan Lovrenović's prose.

With the book Entering Varcar, Lovrenović expands and deepens the circles of his obsessions and his literary journeys to unimaginable depths. This book is both a novel and a poem and a brilliant essay; it cannot and must not be defined unambiguously because in it, Lovrenović, walking along known and unknown roads and paths, creates labyrinths of his own memories and finds ways out of them, intertwining the collective and the personal into an inseparable whole in which all memories are possible and real.

Entering Varcar is a dedication to the place, the space and those who were and are Varcar. This book is many things, but above all it is a testament to endless love and faith in the power of language, which alone can create any world.
