Arapska poezija

Arapska poezija

The collection Arabic Poetry brings a selection of classical and medieval Arab poets who, through love, wisdom, desert landscapes, and spirituality, depict the fundamental motifs of the Arab literary tradition.

The publication Arabic Poetry represents one of the earliest and most valuable Croatian mediations of Arabic literature. The collection brings together an anthological selection of poets from various periods – from pre-Islamic Bedouin poets, through the lyrics of the Golden Age of Islam to later Sufi inspirations. Kukolja translates poems in the spirit of the original, striving to retain the rhythm, picturesqueness and conciseness of the Arabic poetic form. Thematically, the poems encompass love notes, reflections on transience, desert motifs, warrior honor, spiritual longing and meditations on man's connection with nature. The collection serves as a window into the world of Arabic culture and poetics, highlighting the wealth of metaphors, emotional strength and philosophical depth of the poetic tradition that has shaped the Middle Eastern cultural space for centuries.
