Kroz Milanove misli i interakcije s drugim likovima, Olbracht istražuje složenost ljudskih odnosa, posebno u kontekstu ljubavi i prijateljstva. Milan se nalazi između svojih snova i stvarnosti, a kroz simboliku ogledala autor prikazuje unutarnje previranje i potragu za vlastitim mjestom u svijetu.

Roman je ispunjen bogatim opisima i refleksivnim pasusima, te duboko istražuje psihološke aspekte likova. "Ogledalo s rešetkama" je djelo koje potiče na razmišljanje o osobnoj slobodi, društvenim pritiscima i ljudskoj prirodi.
