Povijest svijeta od početka do danas
A comprehensive overview of world history in one volume, prepared for the Croatian edition under the editorship of Vladimir Brodnjak. A comprehensive world history from the first civilizations to the modern era.
The book chronologically and thematically traces the development of humanity: it begins with early times and prehistoric cultures, moves on to the emergence of high civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China) and their contribution to writing, science and social organization. It covers in detail the ancient world – Greece, the Roman state and the Mediterranean – then the migration of peoples, the European Middle Ages, and the development of Asia and other regions.
Special attention is paid to the emergence of the modern world: the Enlightenment, civil revolutions, colonialism, the industrial revolution and the civil age. The final sections cover the 20th century – the world wars, the Cold War and the world after 1945.
The work combines political, social, economic and cultural history, richly illustrated with maps, tables and images. It is intended for a wider audience looking for a concise but informative overview, rather than a narrowly specialized academic monograph. Jochen Bleicken (1926–2005), a renowned German historian of ancient history, is one of the main authors of the German edition, along with collaborators. The Croatian edition includes adaptations and an index by Vladimir Brodnjak.
The book highlights the mutual influences of civilizations, economic and social changes, and key turning points that shaped today's world. It remains a useful reference publication for students, teachers, and anyone interested in a comprehensive view of human history.
