Rat i sjećanja

Rat i sjećanja

Herman Wouk

An epic historical novel, a sequel to "The Winds of War". The author follows the life paths of the novel's heroes caught up in tragic events, their personal drama, love, hate and joy until the end of World War II, until the final resolution of their fates

The main character, Victor "Pug" Henry, a naval officer, continues his career as a military strategist and diplomat, while his family faces the turmoil of war. Pug, now at the center of key operations, encounters historical figures such as Roosevelt and Churchill, while his wife Rhoda struggles with loneliness and marital tensions. Their son Warren, a pilot, and Byron, a submariner, face dangers on the battlefield, while Byron's wife Natalie, a Jew, flees the Holocaust in Europe, facing the horrors of Nazi occupation.

Wouk masterfully combines historical authenticity with emotional depth, depicting how war changes family relationships and the individual. Through detailed descriptions of battles, diplomatic negotiations, and personal conflicts, the novel captures the global scale of war, but also intimate moments of loss and hope. The depictions of the Holocaust and the struggle for survival are particularly poignant.

War and Memory is appreciated for its panoramic breadth and humanistic approach. Wouk's rich narrative and realistic characters make the novel a powerful testimony to war and its impact on people, leaving a lasting impression.
