Moje drago srce: pismo Petra Zrinskoga Katarini Zrinski u suvremenim prijevodima

Petar Zrinski

One of the most moving and poignant letters in Croatian literature. Written on April 29, 1671, on the eve of his execution in Vienna's New Town, the letter was addressed to his wife, Ana Katarina Zrinska, as a farewell and expression of deep love and fait

In the letter, Zrinski calmly accepts his fate, expresses his readiness for death, and asks his wife for forgiveness if he has ever hurt her. He expresses his hope of a reunion before the throne of God, and blesses her and their daughter Aurora Veronika. The letter is written in simple but powerful language, which further emphasizes its emotional depth.

Unfortunately, the letter never reached Anna Katarina, who was imprisoned in a monastery in Graz after her husband's death, where she died in 1673. The letter later became a symbol of love, courage, and loyalty, and was translated into numerous languages, including modern Croatian translations that bring it closer to today's readers.
