Tarzan među majmunima #1
"Tarzan of the Apes" is the first novel in the Tarzan series and tells the story of his incredible origins and upbringing.
English aristocrat John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, and his pregnant wife Alice are marooned on the African coast due to a ship's mutiny. In the wild, Alice gives birth to a son, but soon dies, and her husband is killed by a gorilla.
The child is rescued and raised by a tribe of apes called the Mangani. Kala, a female ape, takes care of him and names him Tarzan, which means "white skin." Tarzan grows up among the animals, learns to survive in the wild, and develops above-average strength, agility, and intelligence. Although he knows nothing of his human origins, his curiosity leads him to his parents' hut, where he finds books and teaches himself to read and write English.
When a new expedition arrives in the jungle with the American Jane Porter, Tarzan encounters other people for the first time. He rescues Jane from danger and falls in love with her. Although Jane returns to civilization, Tarzan decides to follow her, revealing his noble identity and real name - John Clayton, Lord Greystoke.
The novel explores the conflict between wilderness and civilization, identity, loyalty, and natural justice. Tarzan becomes a symbol of man in harmony with nature, but also aware of his roots and feelings.
