Matea Čvagić Prašnjak

In urban Osijek, a group of six young artists and muses founded the Union society.

The founder of the company is the young and talented architect and builder Otton Truppi, while the rest of the company consists of two writers, a painter, their muses and a kind of magician. With endless inspiration, youthful enthusiasm and strong friendship, what can stand in their way? Only unhappy love. And can the birth of two children - born only a few months apart, who meet decades later in extremely unusual circumstances and discover the long-buried secrets of the once famous Union society - bring them together again? Osijek, 1909. Bernard, a young doctor with big dreams, walks towards the villa on the corner with his heavy leather bag in his hand, repeating his father's words in his mind: This is a unique medical case for you, son. Bernard had no idea how unique the medical case entrusted to him was, until he arrived at his destination and discovered that he had to cure his patient without ever seeing him and never examining him. Is the task that Bernard faces a reflection of the pure madness of a businessman, ready to pay Bernard an unimaginable sum of money to treat an unknown and unseen patient, or is there a big and dangerous secret behind this impossible task? The one that will resonate through the decades. Osijek, 1952. Marcel Magnolio is not only the owner of a bookstore, and he is not only a writer - he is both. His bookstore is one of those that can't be found anywhere else - located in only about sixty square meters, but the walls are covered from floor to ceiling with oak shelves full of books, most of which were written by him at the request of people who wanted their stories be written down. Marcel liked all the stories he wrote equally, until a stranger knocked on his door on Christmas Eve 1952. With gray curls and a black coat covered in snow, he looked at Marcelo through his round foggy glasses, and in his bony hand he held a letter written in Marcelo's familiar handwriting. It was his story that overshadowed all those that Marcel had written so far. Osijek, 2016. Iris Athenis is a collector of broken, neglected, discarded and forgotten things. When her father, conservator and restorer David Athenis, decides to buy and renovate a property in Osijek - the so-called the secret Villa Union - Iris moves with him to Osijek and gets a job there as a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy. He brings his collection with him, not realizing that it will never be the same again. Although for years she tried to love every little thing in her collection equally, the one she will find in the ruins of their new estate, unusually fragile and piercing to the core, will be vulnerablely engraved in her mind and her heart. Whispering to her, as if in an endless darkness: Calypso. But let's fast forward to the beginning of this story. One of Iris's beginnings, and the long-ago end of Calypsina.
