Putovanje po Slavoniji 1782. god.

Matija Piller, Ljudevit Mitterpacher

Travels through Slavonia in 1782, the work of Hungarian naturalists Matthias Piller and Ljudevit Mitterpacher, published in 1783 in Buda, is a travelogue that records in detail their exploration of Požega County.

Sent by the Royal University of Buda, Piller, a professor of natural sciences, and Mitterpacher, a professor of agriculture, investigated the cause of the mysterious fires in Eminovci from 1779 to 1782. The journey, which began on 17 June and ended on 12 August 1782, provides a comprehensive account of Slavonian flora and fauna, as well as the socio-economic conditions, customs, diseases and treatment of the population.

The duo describes the flora and fauna, the condition of roads, construction, diet and costumes, providing valuable information about Slavonia in the 18th century. The research, commissioned by the emperor, reveals natural phenomena and the life of rural communities, making the work one of the first natural history works about the region. Piller's zoological and botanical expertise and Mitterpacher's agricultural knowledge make the text scientifically based, but also accessible to a wider audience. This pioneering work remains essential for the study of the natural and cultural history of Slavonia.
