Roman humoristično i toplo prikazuje svakodnevicu četrnaestogodišnjeg dječaka Olfija (Wolfganga), jedinog muškarca u kući punoj žena. Klasik austrijske dječje književnosti, često lektira u osnovnoj školi.

Olfi živi sa sedam žena: majkom, bakom, bakinom sestrom, dvjema tetkama i dvjema sestrama. One ga odgajaju, štite, kontroliraju i ponekad guše svojim autoritetom, navikama i ženskim pravilima. Olfi se prilagođava, ali u pubertetu počinje tražiti vlastiti identitet i muški uzor. Čita o Freudu i Edipovom kompleksu, brine se da će zbog nedostatka oca postati homoseksualac, ima djevojku, ali se boji da nije "dovoljno muško".

Roman je vedar, duhovit i realističan – pokazuje probleme adolescencije (strah od spolnosti, traženje identiteta, sukob s autoritetom) kroz smiješne situacije, bez patetike. Nöstlinger ismijava stereotipe o "ženskom svijetu" i "muškom identitetu", naglašavajući iskrenost, empatiju i prihvaćanje različitosti.

Knjiga je namijenjena mladima i roditeljima – lako čitljiva, s toplim humorom i dubokim razumijevanjem dječje duše.
