Pernata zmija

Edgar Wallace

When creepy postcards with the image of a feathered serpent, an ancient Aztec symbol, are circulating in London, crime reporter Peter Dewin begins an investigation and soon uncovers a network of blackmail, robberies and murders.

The Feathered Serpent (1927) is a classic crime novel by the British master of suspense Edgar Wallace. The story begins in London when several seemingly unrelated people — actress Ella Creed, financier Leicester Crewe and sports promoter Joe Farmer — begin receiving mysterious business cards with a drawing of a feathered serpent, a symbol associated with ancient Aztec mythology. Although the recipients try to play down the significance of these messages in front of the public, in the background there is panic because they all share a dark family or criminal secret from the past.

The investigation begins with an astute and independent journalist Peter Dewin, who is joined in uncovering the case by an eccentric millionaire and expert on Mesoamerican antiquities Gregory Beale. As mysterious events unfold — from spectacular thefts and kidnappings to the mysterious murder of a man whose body was found with an identical mark — Dewin realizes that "The Feathered Serpent" is actually a mysterious vigilante or a secret society created to expose a dangerous criminal group.

Filled with fast-paced action, unexpected twists, blackmail and distinctive Wallace humor, the novel offers top-notch entertainment from the golden age of the British genre novel.
