Neglecting the cultures of small nations, the world remained deprived, impoverished: the eyes, mind, experience and heart were deprived of a view of a crowded wheat field where red poppies peek out between yellow ears of corn.
Small nations, Croats among them, were "raised" on the literature of great nations: French, English, Germans, Russians, Americans, Italians - to a lesser extent, Spaniards and others... So it happened that we know third-rate writers of some big nations, but we don't know the great ones of small ones. To some extent, it is understandable, because the languages of the small nations are poorly known, and in some cases almost inaccessible - they could not break through the linguistic, cultural (and political) barriers set up by the big ones. It is rare that anyone in our country knew Lithuanian, Danish, Icelandic, Flemish, finally, and who in the world knew Croatian?
