Kako se stvarao Robinzon

Kako se stvarao Robinzon

Ilja Iljf, Evgenij Petrov

The work depicts the process of creating a literary hero and mocks bureaucracy, superficiality, and the artificial creation of "ideal" stories according to predetermined rules.

The main part of the plot takes place between the writer and the editor. The editor wants an adventure novel about a Soviet Robinson Crusoe, but constantly imposes rules on what a hero should be: exemplary, politically correct, hardworking and without any flaws. The writer tries to come up with an interesting story, but the editor's demands gradually destroy all spontaneity and imagination. As the conversation progresses, an absurd situation arises: instead of a living and convincing character, "Robinson" becomes an artificial product composed according to ideological rules. The authors show through humor how excessive control and bureaucracy can destroy literature and creativity.
