Svetlosti Rima

The collection The Light of Rome consists of a series of short but rich stories that depict the lives of the lower classes of Roman society. The characters are often marginalized figures – swindlers, petty criminals, workers or ordinary people caught in the web of poverty and social pressures. Each story tells an episode from their lives, exploring themes such as greed, love, betrayal and the struggle for dignity. Moravia does not dramatize their fates, but presents them with a touch of comedy and restrained empathy, emphasizing the universality of human experience. Rome is depicted as a vibrant, chaotic city, where the characters face the challenges of survival, but often retain their spirit and resourcefulness.
