Žene, bajke, kraljice

Žene, bajke, kraljice

Nada Gašić, Julijana Adamović, Nataša Govedić, Vera Vujović, Lada Žigo, Jadranka Pintarić, Jadranka Bargh, Ana Đokić, Aida Bagić

Women, Fairy Tales, Queens – is the first in a series of story collections intended for an adult audience in which nine Croatian female writers decided to give voice to female characters from fairy tales.

Thus, Bluebeard's two wives (one killed and one survived), Cinderella's mother and stepmother, Gosling, the Little Mermaid's grandmother, Snow White's mother, the mother and stepmother of Hansel and Gretel, the daughter and granddaughter of the Snow Queen, found themselves together. Thanks to the writing voices of Nada Gašić, Julijana Adamović, Nataša Govedić, Vera Vujović, Lada Žigo, Jadranka Pintarić, Jadranka Bargh, Ana Đokić and Aida Bagić, each of the stories sheds light on these characters from a completely new angle. Whether the individualization of fairy tale characters loses their power (which we all carry within us as archetypes) or, on the contrary, allows us to stop seeing the lives of fairy tale characters, as well as our own, as a black and white picture, is up to each reader to judge for themselves.
