Ljubav bez naslova

Ljubav bez naslova

Vane Marinović

It is a lyrically intoned work that combines elements of a romance novel, psychological drama, and social criticism, set in the contemporary urban milieu of Zagreb in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The main character is a young intellectual and journalist Ivan (or "I" in the first person), who, after divorcing his wife Mira, embarks on a series of passionate but fleeting love affairs. The central one is his relationship with the mysterious Ana, an unmarried woman from the provinces who comes to Zagreb looking for work and a new life. Their love is intense, erotic and passionate, but marked by insecurity, jealousy and social pressures. The novel follows Ivan's inner turmoil – between the desire for freedom, the fear of obligations and nostalgia for the past – while simultaneously depicting the everyday life of Yugoslav socialism: bureaucracy, living in block settlements, cafes, nightlife and the generation gap.
