Windsor castle

Windsor castle

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It is open to visitors throughout the year. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has been home to 40 monarchs since then.

Windsor Castle is located in England, in the county of Berkshire, near the town of the same name, Windsor. The exact coordinates are 51.48333°N 0.60417°W. This castle is strongly associated with the English and British royal family and represents almost a millennium of architectural history. It was originally built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror. Since the time of Henry I (reigned from 1100 to 1135), it has been used by the current monarch and is the longest inhabited castle in Europe. Within the castle walls is the 15th century St. George's Church, which art historian John Martin Robinson considers "one of the greatest achievements of English Perpendicular Gothic design".
