Dervish and Death is a psychological novel by Meša Selimović written in the period from 1962 to 1966 and is considered his most successful work.

The main character of the novel is the middle-aged dervish Ahmed Nurudin, the manager of a dervish monastery in Ottoman Bosnia. Changes in his modest and peaceful life are brought by the news that his brother has been arrested for political reasons. Trying to help his brother, he faces the authorities and society on his own, and his previous worldview and way of life are shaken. In addition to psychological issues, the novel also expresses many philosophical questions related to human life, society and politics, and also presents an analysis of the social and political situation in Bosnia during the Ottoman Empire.
