Edvard Kocbek u Putu u Jajce donosi osobno i političko svjedočanstvo o ključnim trenucima jugoslavenske povijesti. Knjiga se temelji na Kocbekovim sjećanjima iz vremena Drugog svjetskog rata, posebice putovanja u Jajce 1943. godine.

U Jajcu je 1943. godine održano drugo zasjedanje AVNOJ-a, događaj koji je odredio budućnost Jugoslavije. Kroz refleksivan i lirski stil, autor prikazuje napetost vremena, političke dileme i vlastitu unutarnju borbu kao katoličkog intelektualca u partizanskom pokretu. Kocbek ne samo da dokumentira povijesne činjenice, već i duboko propituje ideologije, moral i sudbinu pojedinca u vrtlogu velikih promjena. Knjiga je snažno svjedočanstvo o sukobu ideala i stvarnosti, ukazujući na kompleksnost povijesti i ljudskih odluka.
