Hologrami straha

Hologrami straha

Slavenka Drakulić

Slavenka Drakulić's first novel is an intimate confession about the drama the author experiences in her fight against a cruel disease. After an operation that brings her back to life, the author is faced with a new reality that she is unable to accept wit

The novel Holograms of Fear is an intimate and introspective confession of a woman facing a serious illness – a kidney transplant. Through diary entries, the narrator shares her thoughts on the body, identity and fear of death. The illness becomes a metaphor for powerlessness and loss of control, while the operation symbolizes the transition between the old and the new life. A sense of anxiety and alienation accompanies the protagonist as she confronts her own fears, medical procedures and the uncertainty of recovery.

Drakulić skillfully dissects the psychological aspects of illness, exploring the limits of human endurance and adaptation. The novel is not only a personal story, but also a universal meditation on the fragility of human existence. Through an authentic and emotional style, the author brings a powerful testimony about the struggle with death, but also the need for hope and survival.
