Nerezînski beseduâr: rječnik govora Nerezina na otoku Lošinju
The work Nerezinski beseduâr is a dictionary of the speech of Nerezine on the island of Lošinj, which has almost 12,600 lexicographical entries, and is accompanied by contributions from local phraseology, paremiology and toponymy.
From the point of view of dialect lexicography and lexicology, the lexicon of any local speech represents a relevant subject of scientific interest. In the context of Croatian dialectology, it is a speech belonging to the island subdialect of the North Chakavian or Chakavian Ekavian dialect. This dictionary is an invaluable source of knowledge for Croatian dialectology and Slavic studies, at all levels, from lexicology to accentology, and then also for contact linguistics and etymology, thanks to the specific linguistic history of the island of Lošinj. Documenting marginalized organic speech through the strongest possible participation of local communities is an important aspect of contemporary ethnolinguistics, with an emphasis on restoring a sense of value and self-respect to speakers. Beyond the enormous contribution to dialectal lexicography and lexicology, for which both the local co-authors Onorato Bonić and Flavia Zorović, as well as the editor Nataša Šprljan, are responsible, each in their own way, the accompanying description of the Nerezine speech has brought to light some features that will significantly enrich our dialectological knowledge, primarily in the area of accentuation. The Nerezine Beseduâr will be a reference work of Croat and Slavic literature.
