Kamen na kamen: 10 pjesama sa nove ploče Jugotona

A collection of ten songs created in the wake of the new Yugoslav folk expression of the early 1970s, which combines traditional motifs, rural themes and contemporary festival production of Jugoton.

Kamen na kamen: 10 songs from the new Jugoton record was published in 1973 as a sheet music edition related to the album of the same name by the band Kamen na kamen and author Nikola Radovan Borota. The booklet contains lyrics and sheet music of songs that formed the core of the then popular repertoire: Kulu gradim a kamena nemam, Grad, Brat i brat, Zov sa planina, Ananas, Nek se zna, Mila majko, Ratar, Ovce and U sutonu jedne proljetne noćiHimza Polovina.

The publication was created during the period of strong development of the recording industry in Yugoslavia, when Jugoton, the largest record company in the country, in addition to gramophone records, also published sheet music editions intended for musicians, cultural and artistic societies and amateur ensembles. Such booklets enabled the rapid spread of popular songs outside the radio and record markets and played an important role in the musical life of local communities.

The musical content of the collection relies on folklore motifs, pastoral scenes, native themes and folk melodies, characteristic of folk production in the early 1970s. Titles such as Ratar, Ovce or Zov sa planina reflect an idealized image of the village and traditional way of life, which corresponded to the then-current interest of the audience in music that connected contemporary production with folk heritage.

Today, this edition is interesting as a document of popular culture of socialist Yugoslavia and a testimony to the time when gramophone records, sheet music and public musical performances formed a unique system for the dissemination of popular and folk music. It provides insight into the repertoire, aesthetic patterns and musical tastes of the audience in the early 1970s.
