Zanemarujući kulture malih naroda, svet je ostao uskraćen, osiromašen: oči, um, iskustvo i srce bili su lišeni pogleda na prepuno žitno polje gde crveni mak proviruje između žutih klasova.

Mali narodi, među njima i Hrvati, „odgajani” su na književnosti velikih naroda: Francuza, Engleza, Nemaca, Rusa, Amerikanaca, Italijana – u manjoj meri, Španaca i drugih... Tako se desilo da poznajemo trećerazredne pisce nekih velikih naroda, ali ne poznajemo velike malih. Donekle je i razumljivo, jer su jezici malih naroda slabo poznati, u nekim slučajevima gotovo nepristupačni – nisu mogli da probiju jezičke, kulturne (i političke) barijere koje postavljaju veliki. Retko ko je kod nas znao litvanski, danski, islandski, flamanski, konačno, a ko je u svetu znao hrvatski?
