Velika knjiga svetaca: Ilustrirana enciklopedija po danima

An illustrated encyclopedia with more than 500 saints and blesseds arranged by day of the liturgical year. It includes biographies, patronages, iconographic attributes, and more than 600 reproductions of sacred art.

The Great Book of Saints: An Illustrated Encyclopedia by Day is an encyclopedic work that provides a chronological overview of more than five hundred saints, blesseds, and martyrs arranged according to the days of the liturgical year. The material is not limited to the General Roman Calendar, but also includes saints from the Lectionary of the Church of England, the liturgical calendar of the dioceses of the United States of America, and numerous Orthodox, local, and contemporary saints, thus providing a broader overview of the Christian hagiographic heritage. For each saint, it provides a concise account of his life, the historical context of his activities, the circumstances of his martyrdom or sainthood, the date of his liturgical memorial day, patronage, and the iconographic attributes by which he is recognizable in the visual arts and church tradition.

The book's special value is made up of more than six hundred reproductions of paintings, frescoes, mosaics, stained glass, sculptures, and other works of sacred art that accompany the texts and show the development of Christian iconography from early Christianity to the modern era. In addition to biographical information, the book explains the origins of individual holidays, the development of the veneration of saints, and their role in liturgical, cultural, and artistic history. Thanks to its chronological arrangement, rich illustrations, and encyclopedic approach, the work serves as a reference manual for daily monitoring of the liturgical year, but also as a source of information on Christian history, iconography, and European cultural heritage.
