The Book of the Philosopher brings Nietzsche's early philosophical writings created mainly between 1872 and 1875, conceived as parts of a larger, but never completed, work Das Philosophenbuch. In them, the themes that will characterize his mature philosophy are already clearly recognized: the problem of truth, the relationship between art and knowledge, criticism of scientific rationalism, and the question of the philosopher's place in culture.
The book includes four thematic units: "The Last Philosopher. The Philosopher. Considerations on the Conflict of Art and Knowledge", "The Philosopher as a Healer of Culture", "Introduction to the Theory of Knowledge on Truth and Lies in Extramoral Sense" and "Science and Wisdom in Conflict". Nietzsche sees the philosopher not only as a cold seeker of facts, but as a creative personality capable of interpreting and transforming culture. He pays special attention to the relationship between language, concepts and what we call truth.
A valuable title for readers interested in Nietzsche, the history of philosophy, aesthetics and the theory of cognition, but also for understanding the development of ideas that will later become central in his philosophical work.
