„His Lives and Works“ ist der zweite Band einer Reihe überarbeiteter, endgültiger Ausgaben der Horrorgeschichtensammlungen von Thomas Ligotti.

Grimscribe wurde erstmals 1991 von Carroll & Graf in den USA und Robinson Publishing in England veröffentlicht und erlangte deutlich mehr Anerkennung als Ligottis erste Sammlung, Songs of a Dead Dreamer, die zwei Jahre zuvor von denselben Verlagen herausgegeben wurde. Nach Ansicht vieler Kommentatoren festigte Ligotti mit Grimscribe seinen Ruf als Horrorautor von großem Format.
