George Mikes

"How to be a Foreigner" is a collection of humorous essays by the British writer of Hungarian origin George Mikes, who humorously describes the cultural differences and absurdities he encountered during his life in Great Britain.

The book is a selection from four of his most famous works, and for this edition the author has written a special preface in which he explains that the Yugoslavs are partially responsible for his humorous style. Born in Hungary, Mikes moved to England during World War II and through his essays provides a unique view of the British way of life from a foreigner's perspective. His observations cover topics such as time, queuing, social behavior and many other aspects of everyday life. His writing style is characterized by subtle humor and irony, highlighting universal truths about human behavior.
