Perje svitanja

Perje svitanja

Stevo Leskarac

In Leskarc's poems, we will quickly find themes about art and creativity, the Croatian language and folk customs, and national heritage.

The poet of loneliness and questions seems to be constantly on the verge of awakening, as he titled one of his poems. Silence and emptiness reign over the earth, and man wonders what awakening will bring. The worst is yet to come, when morning cruelly interrupts dreams, but poems circle through space and, by circling, create creativity and art. In these cycles, the Earth becomes a wasteland, unable to resist the sun's rays and slowly loses its fertility, cover and future. In his ecosystem, the poet has built symbols of darkness, disappearance, dreams and daydreaming with permanent question marks about what will happen next, what tomorrow will bring. Will the new day be an opportunity for a new beginning or a continuation of immersion in daydreaming and expectation. The cycle ends with the poem Crows, which symbolize the permanence of change, although crows are also given more terrible attributes in different mythologies, for example, carriers of souls to the realm of the dead. With their furious flight, crows send a will. The classical semiotic chain explains the communication between sender and receiver by the message, which enables communication. A will, on the other hand, signifies an end, completion, the impossibility of moving on and continuing to act. Just as Poe's raven can symbolize death and fate, Leskarec's crows can open up in the reader's consciousness the question of creativity, meaning, and the journey of life under a shadowed moon and flaming letters that can disappear with the new day.
