Sima Pandurović

The Anthology of the Latest Lyric Poetry is one of the most important anthological editions of interwar Yugoslav literature. It was edited by the prominent Serbian poet and critic Sima Pandurović, who also wrote an extensive foreword.

Anthology brings a selection of the lyrics of the most prominent modern poets – both Serbian and Croatian – who were active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Poets such as: Milan Rakić, Srećko Kosovel, Tin Ujević, Vladimir Nazor, Aleksa Šantić, Silvij Strahimir Kranjčević, Dragutin Domjanić, Ivo Vojnović (in the poetry selection), and many others are represented.

This third edition is significantly expanded compared to the first two (1921 and later), contains more authors and poems, and is illustrated with portraits of poets. Pandurović's preface is an important document of literary criticism of the time, in which he explains the selection criteria and provides an overview of the development of newer lyrics in the South Slavic region.

The book had a great influence on the formation of the canon of modern poetry in the Kingdom of SHS/Yugoslavia and is considered a representative cross-section of the lyrics of that time. Today, it is valued among collectors and literary historians as an important witness to the literary life of the interwar period.
