Glorija: Mirakl u šest slika

Glorija: Mirakl u šest slika

Ranko Marinković

A drama about the conflict between faith, passion and hypocrisy, in which Ranko Marinković questions the boundaries between holiness, lust, freedom and social norms through the fate of Gloria.

Gloria: Miracle in Six Pictures is one of the most famous dramatic works by Ranko Marinković and one of the key achievements of Croatian modern drama. The plot is set in a small Mediterranean town, where religiosity, superstition, erotic attraction and the pursuit of miracles intertwine, creating an atmosphere of tension between the spiritual and physical worlds.

At the center is Gloria, a circus girl who, due to a combination of circumstances, becomes the subject of collective expectations and projections. While some see in her the embodiment of holiness and the possibility of miraculous healing, others are driven by lust, interest or desire for power. Through her character, Marinković exposes the mechanisms of myth-making, manipulation of faith and the fragility of human beliefs.

The drama combines elements of folk performance, tragedy, grotesque and symbolism. Rich dialogues, expressive scenic design and layered symbolism raise questions about the relationship between the individual and the community, freedom, guilt, sacrifice and responsibility. At the same time, it questions the boundary between authentic faith and its abuse, which is why Gloria has permanently remained one of the most performed and interpreted works of Croatian dramatic literature.
