Vladimir Filakovac 1892 – 1972

Jelica Ambruš

Retrospective exhibition

He studied in Budapest, lived in Vienna and Osijek, and worked as a pedagogue at the academy in Belgrade and from 1941 in Zagreb. In painting, he continues the tradition of the Munich circle with figural compositions, landscapes and portraits. Later, a number of post-impressionist works were created. He is particularly distinguished by his studies of animals, and he made illustrations and decorated books. He moved from tone to color, and in numerous drawings and graphics he proved to be a good animalist and caricaturist. He also did illustrations and decorated books.
