Meredith and Steve Whitman are two successful people in a happy marriage. The only thing they miss is their children. Steve longs for them, but Meredith is not ready to subordinate her career to her responsibilities to them.
Steve supports her decision to accept the new job, and he is ready to find a job in California as soon as possible. He secretly hopes that in another city, in a different environment, he will be able to persuade his wife to have a child. Perhaps in California their family will start a new life? However, neither Steve nor Meredith count on the frustrations that marriage is spared when spouses are separated by long distances and are left to weekend meetings and bad schedules. Despite their best intentions, insurmountable forces begin to pull them apart.
