U "Ekspoziciji tame" pratimo dječaka koji odrasta u (izmišljenom) selu Viru, smještenu između Koprivnice, Đurđevca i Bjelovara, od kalendarskog i pravog (Sarajevski atentat) početka 20. stoljeća do kraja Drugoga svjetskog rata.

Ispripovijedan iz perspektive slijepca, prozvanog Mračnjak, koji je istodobno i njegovo žarište, roman Ekspozicija tame odvija se u imaginarnom podravskom selu Viru, u kojemu je migracijskom kockom završila i bogata trgovačka cincarska obitelj Aviro. Njihova je kuća središte intelektualnog života, otmjenija i građanskija od drugih, dah Beča, pa nije čudno što jedan slijepi dječak iz siromašne, nepismene i Velikim ratom prorijeđene i oštećene obitelji cijeli život želi i žudi biti kao oni, jedan od njih. Protutnjat će kroz selo dva svjetska rata sa strašnim i dugoročnim posljedicama, carstva će postajati kraljevine i republike, u onom drugom ratu vojske će se smjenjivati na vlasti i u teroru, mnogi će prodati obraz da bi se glava sačuvala, ljudi će u pravilu podemoniti i nacionalno se homogenizirati.
