Laertius deals with pre-Socratic thinkers, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Stoics, Epicureans and others. The work is one of the main sources for the history of Greek philosophy, as it conveys quotations and anecdotes that would otherwise have been lost. His account of Epicurus, for example, is one of the most complete preserved sources on that philosopher. The book is a valuable resource for the study of ancient philosophy, offering insight into the personalities and intellectual debates of the classical era.
