Izabrane pjesme / Ausgewählte Gedichte

Johann Wolfgang Goethe

A representative selection from the lyrics of Goethe, one of the greatest European poets, encompassing key phases of his work – from Sturm und Drang, through the classical Weimar period to his late poems.

The book presents the poems in parallel in the original German language and in Croatian translations/arrangements, which provides a direct insight into Goethe's poetic language and the power of his lyrics.

The versatility and power of Goethe's lyrics are the greatest event in the history of European poetry in the period of anti-classicism and romanticism, in an era in which Goethe is truly unparalleled in terms of the universality of inspiration and the richness of expression.

The book is considered one of the most important Croatian editions of Goethe's poetry in the 20th century. It contains classic arrangements by Cesarić and Nazor (e.g. "Prometej", "Grenzen der Menschheit", "Wandrers Nachtlied" etc.), along with some more recent translations.
