S onu stranu okova iluzije: Moj susret s Marxom i Freudom

Erich Fromm

In the autobiographical-philosophical work "Beyond the Chains of Illusion", Erich Fromm depicts his own intellectual development through his encounter with the ideas of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud.

Fromm believes that both thinkers have had a profound impact on the understanding of man and society, but that their ideas are often misinterpreted or ideologically distorted.

According to Fromm, Freud provided revolutionary insight into the unconscious life and inner conflicts of man, but he was inclined to an authoritarian and pessimistic view of human nature. Marx, on the other hand, analyzed the social structures and economic conditions that shape human existence, but in practice he was often interpreted dogmatically.

Fromm seeks to combine the best of both traditions in humanistic socialism and psychoanalysis, emphasizing freedom, love, and creativity as fundamental human values. He criticizes both capitalism and authoritarian communism for stifling authentic humanity. Instead of ideological blindness, he calls for critical thinking and personal development.

The book is a call for man to break free from the “shackles of illusion” – whether religious, political, or psychological – and recognize his own responsibility for creating a meaningful and humane world.
