Milica Jakovljević Mir-Jam

"It was one night on the Adriatic" is a novel by the Serbian writer Milica Jakovljević, known under the pseudonym Mir-Jam, which was first published in 1935.

The novel is about love that develops during a vacation on the Adriatic, and the central event of the novel is a romantic story that takes place in an idyllic resort, full of flying passions and summer loves. The story begins when Ivana, a young and beautiful girl, comes on vacation with her parents. Her meeting with Mark, a mysterious and charming young man, immediately brings excitement and uncertainty into her life.

Ivana is gentle and shy, while Marko, as a typical hero of the Mir-Yam novel, radiates charm, security and adventure. Although she is charmed by his appearance and behavior, Ivana is cautious and insecure, because she is still under the influence of strict social norms and family values that impose certain limits on her behavior.

The love that arises between them is not simple. Obstacles stand in her way, including doubts, insecurities, and the fear of society's condemnation. Through the story of Ivana and Marko, Mir-Jam explores the emotions and dilemmas that come with youthful love, but also with the problems that arise when desires and reality are not fully aligned.

The novel "It was one night on the Adriatic" is a story about youthful love, inner maturation and the search for personal happiness. Through the characters of Ivana and Marko, Mir-Jam shows how love can be deeply transformative, but also how the social framework in which that love develops can shape and make it difficult.
