The Devil's Pond: The young widower Germain sets out in search of a new wife with the help of his father-in-law. Along the way, he meets a poor shepherdess, Maria, with whom he goes through many hardships, including a night spent by the mysterious Devil's Pond. During the journey, Germain and Maria grow closer, discovering genuine feelings and a simple, natural love.
