Hans Christian Andersen

Nightingale is a fairy tale with an unpredictable ending. Although we are used to all fairy tales having a happy ending, the outcome of this story is a little different, perhaps even fairer compared to Andersen's other fairy tales.

The fairy tale begins with stories reaching the Chinese emperor about an incredible bird, a little nightingale with a beautiful voice. The emperor sent his minister to find the nightingale and bring it to him in the palace. The beautiful song of the nightingale made the emperor cry and he decided to keep it. Although he may have had everything he wanted with the emperor, the nightingale did not have the most important thing - his freedom. Namely, every day when he went out, the nightingale was followed by servants, and his legs were tied with ribbons so that he could not fly away.

After some time, the emperor received a golden bird as a gift, so he decided to get rid of the nightingale. The golden bird could sing and he felt that he no longer needed the nightingale. However, he was struck by an illness, so the ungrateful man wished an infamous nightingale to sing for him because the golden one had spoiled.

The nightingale did not have a bad memory and forgave the emperor for behaving badly towards him, but still he did not agree to continue living with him, but came to visit him every day. Still, he wanted to be free more than anything, and living with an ungrateful emperor did not mean a fulfilled life for him.
