Roman Goli kruh Mohameda Choukrija snažna je autobiografska priča o siromaštvu, gladi i borbi za dostojanstvo u Maroku sredinom 20. stoljeća.

Autor, koji dolazi iz ekstremno siromašne obitelji, prikazuje svoje djetinjstvo obilježeno nasiljem, gubitkom i neimaštinom. Choukri se suočava s okrutnim životnim uvjetima, gubi članove obitelji i bježi od oca tiranina.

Djelo prati njegovu transformaciju od nepismenog dječaka koji luta ulicama u potrazi za hranom do mladog muškarca koji pronalazi spas u obrazovanju i književnosti. Brutalna iskrenost i sirovost jezika odražavaju stvarnost marginaliziranih slojeva društva, dok roman istovremeno slavi ljudsku otpornost i težnju za boljim životom.

Goli kruh je univerzalna priča o preživljavanju i emancipaciji, postajući glas obespravljenih i simbol borbe protiv društvene nepravde.
