Žene, hrana i Bog

Žene, hrana i Bog

Geneen Roth

Many readers of the book claim that it helped them break out of the vicious cycle of losing and gaining weight and get rid of the yo-yo effect of countless diets they undergo, by getting to the very core of the problem.

Geneen Roth herself has been on diets constantly. In her life, she says, she has gained and lost more than 450 kilograms. Until she took a radical step - she stopped dieting. She explains that behind our "increased appetite" is actually the desire to satisfy some other type of hunger (existential, emotional ...). As a help, she offers Guidelines that will instruct us on how to eat properly.

The problem, says Geneen Roth, is not how much we eat, but why we eat so much in the first place. Food as a comfort, however, only doubles our suffering - we are not only exposed to the original pain that made us reach for food, but we are also overwhelmed by shame and guilt for being overweight. The author claims that all sacrifices and diet regimes will not help us in the long run and wants to teach us a new way of approaching the problem that is truly effective.

Our relationship with food is inextricably linked to our deepest beliefs about life and ourselves. When we realize that we are using food as a means to relieve pain or distract ourselves from problems, this process will take us deeper, to the very center of our lives, towards the radiant presence of meaning and beauty, to what many of us call "God."
